To the point first!I did not purchase this as a dog bed. I purchased this as a training aid that we required after picking up our very high strung golden puppy from a week of puppy training. It is called place. He is lying in his place in this picture because he really likes it and it is perfectly allowable for him to do that. He can come and go as he chooses. However, place is also a command. When he is commanded to "place", he must go to place and stay there until he is given the command that he can leave, "OK". This is amazingly effective and helpful during mealtime or when we have guests!I was hesitant for a moment to purchase this bed based on a review stating that this bed was nearly impossible to assemble from a person who said could assemble anything. Do not believe it for a minute. It is true that no instructions come with the bed. -GO TO YOU TUBE IF YOU NEED TO-I used Fly Creek Kennels "How to assemble a Kuranda Dog Bed". I reviewed it once. VERY straightforward. You need a 7/16 socket wrench and a phillips head driver - that's it - everything lines up. You could use a screw driver but he recommends and impact driver to spare your wrist and that is what I used. It has lock washers but this dog is straight up nuts so I went ahead and beefed it up with some blue thread lock to be sure i won't have to going back and tightening it up.The back story? I have always kept labs. They are smart, healthy, obedient and energetic. I looked upon Goldens as kind of the lazy house designer house retriever. About a year ago we took our 90lb chocolate cuddly bear who was also my wife ferocious protector in to get some lumps checked out and an x-ray revealed lungs full of lymphoma. She appeared perfectly healthy for about 5 more weeks then stopped eating and we had to put her down. When my wife was ready for a new puppy she decided she wanted a golden - no not a golden. Can't we get another lab?Well, of course we got the golden, and let me tell you these dogs, at least in the first year, are an order of magnitude crazier than labs. Albiet I believe they are probably smarter than labs, but they use there smarts to mess with you and get into trouble. I have never had to send a lab to puppy school. This golden, Oakly, spent a full week in house and I think he could use a couple more.Anyway we needed a place for training when he came home from puppy training and we needed it fast. I chose a tubular steel bed that looked solid from Amazon. It had large triangular gaps in the material at each of the corners - those were the first to get shredded on day one. The bed was assembled by plastic inserts that fit into the tubular steel and a bolt that was extremely difficult to line up was screwed into the insert that either I believe was intended to or actually did expand the plastic to tighen the bed structure. I made them as tight as I could. Day 2 the bed legs collapsed. Day 3 we had a collapsed place with shredded material, a return shipping lable from amazon, and a new order for the kuranda. So in the end I paid $50 for a "place" that was not attractive and fell apart in 2 days and replaced with a very attractive place for $150 that I believe will last for a very long time. In the scheme of things, the dog itself cost $1,800 (unbelievable!), then the immunizations, heart guard, flee and tick control, puppy training. When you just paid $500 for a week of in house puppy training and one of the most effective training tools in the "place", I learned a very valuable lesson. Why skimp our on $100 and buy a cheap "place". My professional training is in mechanical engineering and I could really find no weakness or improvements that I would recommend making in this bed - or in my case "place" training aid. It is solidly made, the dog loves it, and I love it too. If you are in the market buy this bed! This is awesome and easy to set up my dog loves itdurable, my dog loves it and she looks so comfortable on itJust opening the box you can see the quality. I have big dogs and this works great. Other raised dog beds would make a stress sound when any of my dogs laid on them. This one is perfect! The one I purchased is good for up to 250lbs.Kuranda is the best bed going although it isn't without it's issues. The all aluminum is great but they cheaped out on the nuts, you must now use a locking washer instead of a locking nut. They were hard enough and this adds a step. These beds are very sturdy and well constructed. The material is flexible and comfortable for sleepy dogs in the sun. My only gripe is the material doesn't let the rain leak through so it puddles.Like
